Comedy is back!
Comedy is back in Pioneer Square and Studio 210 is hosting multiple shows a month. I had the opportunity to photograph the first Hype Girls show this last Friday. I hope to see more people lining up for these comedy shows.
Goodwill find #2
Yes, I bought this open box Lomography instant camera. I bought this camera for about $32 usd. You might think what a steal, which if it works properly it will be a massive deal. That is the gamble with bidding for these film cameras on goodwill online as they are all untested. I recently made the change from Polaroid 600 to this Lomo instant as there is a HUGE price difference with film. This Lomo Instant takes instax mini which already saves me over 50% per pack of film. As of right now I love the feel and sleek look of this camera, and hope that it works the way it should. I will write a update on this once I get to test it.
Goodwill find #1
Agfa Isolette II - Medium format
There is a saying that I have heard a few times now which states " A photographer will never have enough cameras". Initially I could not see the appeal to having multiple camera bodies. However, now that I have been a photographer for about 6 years it is starting to make sense. To share a few details about this new ( old ) camera is that it is a medium format , on one roll of 120 film it only has 12 exposures, it has a collapsable lens which is easy for carrying around and storage. It is fully mechanical which means you have to crank the shutter level, wind the film, and shutter speed. I bought this on Goodwill online store
Photo walk #1 (film)
As a photographer it is very important to keep yourself inspired. It is also crucial to keep yourself practicing and understanding new compositions. This photo walk was actually done at the end of last year , however I just got back my film yesterday. The goal for this photowalk was to shoot an entire roll of Ilford Ortho (BW). The highlights were very overexposed with the reflection in the snow which then was corrected in post. I will be sharing my favorite images below.
Saturn Social Club
This past weekend I photographed an event for Seattle based creatives. It was a social media event/ networking event that Saturn Social Club put together. It all took place in a club in SODO called Super nova, which went with the theme of the party; disco inferno. With over 100 attendees, 4 dancers, a special guest DJ and local sponsor Microbar. My favorite
Thursday Night Market
I was given the opportunity to photograph my first Thursday Night Market in Pioneer square(Seattle). There is more to being a freelance photographer than just taking photos, meaning a huge social/networking aspect. One thing I was unaware of when going full-time photography was that I would work by myself 75% of the time. So when I was given the opportunity to photograph the "photobooth" at the Thursday Night Market I jumped on it. A goal of 2023 was to meet new people and I thought what a great chance to work on that new goal! Below is a few of my favorite photos of last nights event.
Filters: Star 8pt
As a photographer in the Seattle area, I felt like there was always a race to be the first one to try the trendy next thing. I being a follower purchased this star filter from Hoya. Not knowing how I would use it or if I would have any use for it. I just needed to have it because " you never know". As time went on I had a bit of buyers remorse because I had purchased this item and I had ZERO use for it. However I kept in my camera bag and have used it a few times since the day of purchase. The
First " editorial " photoshoot
As I am making my way into the 2nd year of being a freelance photographer, I need to ensure that I will continue to learn and find new opportunities. One of my weaknesses as a photographer has always been shooting in only natural light because external strobe/ flashes always were so intimidating. In 2023, is when I start to expand my knowledge and experience with artificial lights.
End of the year reflection
2022, was a year of reflection, understanding, learning and opportunity. I completed a year of freelance photography and was fortunate to have all these great confidence boosting photoshoots. I am happy to know that there are many clients, friends, family that are really rooting for me. In retrospect, Alejandro Takes Photos had a very successful year 1 and we are excited to take on year 2. Thank you again and see you all in 2023.
